130823 Friday  Hawaii Pacific University and fireworks

Spent the morning at the beach as usual. There was a man on the pier feeding the doves. A boy noticed a bird with a string on it´s feet. It turned out to be Asian black hair. The man was used to it and had a scissor to cut it off. He told us the long black hair often get stuck on the doves feet and when they try to rid themselves from it it tightens and can actually cause a lost foot. It is because the black hair is so strong :(

At 10.30 I was at Bishop Street and met my daughter and grand daughter. My daughter looked different as she had cut off her hair. It looked great. Then my grandson arrived too and we took visited the school shop. I bought myself a backpack but not the color I wanted. I wanted one with the colors of the rainbow but my daughter said, NO, you can´t buy that one everyoen will think you are a gay person. :( .  Then it was time to take the bus to Hawaii Pacific University. We had a short tour in the building and then spent the time in the surrounding area while my granddaughter took her final test for the summer classes she had taken.

It is a beautiful place with nice views over the mountain range and forests. Nice garden areas and sports arenas. I found two more birds I had not seen earlier too. A great place for a school and well tended too. Somebody small wants to go to school. To the right.

Back in town I took the bus to the Hostel and there the room was turned upside down. Again! They had been spraying about everything. Even my nametag on the bed was gone. Guess they took the opportunity to do a good job while there was not that many guests in the room. Most of the guys had gotten rooms now and was off to prepare for school.

After fixing the bed and whatever I had to do I went to the beach. Even the beach was almost empty. A bit spooky actually. At eight I sat on the stonewall at Waikiki Beach eating my Subway. And then the fireworks started. I had forgotten about it but it was soo timely. I just had to move a bit as people were standing in my way. I stayed there for quite a while as the hotel on the other side of the street started to play soft music. Quite a nice way to end the day.

Today we were going on a trip on the east coast and up to North Shore. After breakfast I brought some food with me and took the bus to the villa where everybody stays.

Pali lookout over HPU area and the Pacific Ocwan
Around 11 we started out. We headed for the coast and crossed the mountainrange. Our first stop was at Pali Lookout where we had a beautiful view over the coast and over one of  my granddaughters schools, Hawaii Pacific University (the school is located on three locations). We continued north and passed the harbor where the school has their boats. Weather was cloudy and we had a bit of showers. Seemed to be common in this part of the island.  Pali Lookout video from youtube

We made a stop at a beach My granddaughter liked.Turned out to be Turtle Bay.  It was a sandy beach for swimming of course, but also a part with rough, sharp lava where we explored tiny creatures for a while. Not that great for the sandals as the lava made cuts in them. With one step we went from warm sand to sticky, sharp lava.
The location was great but the line for the toilet was not.

We continued north and found the Turtle beach where the Green Turtles used to be. That was cool. They lay on the beach or swam close in the waves. Very nice to watch. Responsible personnel arranged a red rope around the turtles and people was not allowed to disturb them.

Then we continued to a diving shop in
Haleiwa Town. Parts of my family wanted some equipment. Then, it was time for Shaved Ice. It is what is says. Shaved ice with colored flavors of your choice. Rather delicious! It seemed to be a very popular place.

Afternoon was now late and we had to rush for DOLE Plantation. And Pineapple ice cream.
We walked around the garden and shop for a while and then finished off with ice cream. In the garden they have these gorgeous trees growing among the pineapples. I don´t know the name of them so I would be happy if anyone could let me know. I have seen them once before in Costa Rica.

On our way back we went to Best Buy to buy some local phones as we live in different places that would be nice. Then I was brought back to the hostel and the evening walk at the beach. Then I got good use of the phone at once as I realised my camera was under the seat in the car. And the small one low on battery. So no more shots today.

Sunday 130811
First morning I was picked up by my family at 9. For breakfast and a round tour in the area surrounding the school. They were accompanied of Isabelle and her brother. Arriving at Hawaii Pacific University we started to look around. My daughter found a place where she could get her nails done so she and my grand daughter got an appointment. Then we headed for breakfast. Isabelle invited us to one of her favourite places. A good one. Then my daughter and granddaughter went to the nail shop and Isabelle guided the rest of us through the school and the neighborhood.

Isabelle is a great guide. She guided us through market places and let us taste the Hawaiian specialties. And also we went through a Chinese market. She also had some "secret spots" she shared with us. A place with gorgeous view over Honolulu harbor.

I also noted that H has a lot of artwork here and there and, of course, some birds too.

We picked up my daughter and grand daughter at midday. Had lunch at Mc Donald but as we tried a lot on the tour I was not hungry. Only had a Cooke.

Then we headed for Ala Moana Shopping Center. First stop, Victoria´s Secret! That was cool! And a beautiful shop. My family members got the shopping fever I think. Both in VS  and all other shops in the shopping center.
At 4 we were picked up and headed for a restaurant which speciality was flamed food. It was nice as all of my granddaughters roommates was attending.

After dinner some of the others wanted to go to the movies but I was not interested. Isabelle was driving her brother to the airport so I joined them and she let me of at the Hostel later on. Talked to a couple of guys for a while and then took a stroll down to the beach. Back at the hostel I was surprised to find all of the guys sleeping. Quiet as a mouse I uploaded my shots to the computer, took a shower and went to bed.
